The Rancho Framing Top Alcohol Funny Car Camaro got off to good start at the NHRA Pacific
Division season opener at Firebird International Raceway. Although we had a rough start when
we brushed the wall on our first qualifying attempt, we went on to run our 2nd quickest and
fastest time ever and go to the semi-finals. On the first run the car got out of the groove in the
right lane and started to head to the guard rail.  Mark pulled it back around, but when it reached
the end of the concrete launch pad it made a hard move to the right and hit the guard rail crushing
the header and scratching the body. With a few miner repairs we made the 2nd qualifying session
and proceeded to qualify #4 with a 5.763 @ 250.46 mph. On the 3rd qualifier we slowed to a
5.853 at 245.99 mph. We won the first round with an improved 5.719 @ 252.47 mph coupled
with a .453 reaction time. In the semi-final round against Bucky Austin we lost lane choice and
ran a 5.765 @ 250.74 mph in the same lane we hit the wall. Bucky beat us running a 5.626 @
258.02 mph.  Our next race will be the NHRA SummitRacing.com Nationals Apr. 3-6, 2003 in
Las Vegas NV. We were going to go to the Division race in Tuscon AZ the week before Vegas,
but decide to concentrate on the National event in Vegas and hopefully have a good showing
there. It is also hard to run two consecutive weekends when we all do have regular jobs and
businesses that need attending to.

Raceway listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this
round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed
time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Mark Woznichak Runs 5.763/250.46, Now #3;
Best prior run: 0.000/0.00, Was #12
Right Lane: Dennis Taylor Runs 7.963/102.62, Now #10;
Best prior run: 6.460/162.92, Was #9

Woz's close encounter with the guard rail last night wasn't too
bad. Right side headers and a new "Darlington Stripe" (for
you old NASCAR fans) on the right rear quarter panel.
Taylor gets close to setting a new record for tire shake and
smoke. He tries to drive through the severe shake and has the
front wheels come up when he shifts. When they came back
down, it kicked the rear tires loose. Woz obviously wasn't
challenged by last night run and makes a clean pass into the
current #3 spot.
